Is it true we only use 1%of our brain?

and if it is possible to develope the full power of the human brainIs it true we only use 1%of our brain?
No, we use all of our brains. The ';10% use of brains'; urban legend is completely false. Is it true we only use 1%of our brain?
NO, it is a myth. Check the links from SNOPES posted by SOME DUDE and assign him the best answer. He is correct.
To summarize earlier responses, and throw my little footnote in...

Much depends on what you mean by using my brain. Large chunks of my brain are continuously active: the optic radiation and visual lobes, the hypothalamus (which does a great deal of monitoring and controlling the endocrine and other activities of the body), the auditory cortex, the sensory strips and countless other areas. Conversely, the frontal lobes (the main area devoted to analytic thought, and other, similar things) may or may not be up to much at any given time.

CONVERSELY, the seat of consciousness--not yet clearly determined, but believed to be in the pontine or thalamic areas--does little but coordinate the inputs from the assorted more specialized areas of the brain; whether that is in continuous use is open to debate. Neurologic activity still occurs at all times, but from what I've seen of some folks, well, I'm not sure that activity is always achieving ANYTHING other than using up energy.

A lot of these numbers--1%, 5%, 10%, 90%, whatever--are scientific wild-eyed guesses, and I've not seen anyone define what they're using for the numerator OR the denominator of the fraction that they're putting together to get their percentages.

Personally, of course, I have to use all five of my neurons to get by at ALL TIMES... It'd be SO much easier if a couple of them would connect into a SYNAPSE!

OK, bad joke at the end.
No, that is pure myth. We do use our brain. But it is true that a lot of our brain's functioning is at the subconscious level.
we use all of it

its up to us how much we wana use
Actually, we use only 10% of our brain. Maybe less.
It is less than 1% for most of those asking questions on Yahoo.
Doctor's say that we only use between 1% and 5% of our brain but playing memory-type games like flash cards will enhance brain activity.

My doctor told me that if you take a deck of cards and lay all of the cards face up on the ground, try to remember the placements of as many of the cards as possible before turning them all over. Within a few months, you will be able to remember where all of the cards are without looking at the card's face. This type of activity can enhance your brain activity and usage.
well it is true.. we hav no idea wat we can do wid our brains if we use to its fullest,, but we cant.. so dont even try..
We use 100% of our brain all the time, even when we sleep. Parts of the brain have different functions, and blood flow to those areas increases when we focus on an activity or do something that requires that part of the brain. An electroencephalograph measures the electrical activity in a gross (general) way from outside the brain. Only when a person is dead is there no electrical activity in the brain.

See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brain
I have heard from multiple sources that humans use only 5% or less of their brain capacities. To clarify this with the people who said that we use 100% of our brains 100% of the time, I think you are a little confused; while it is true that our brains are always active or we would die, the part of your brain that you actually use to learn and store information is really about 3% of its capacity. If we used 100% of our brains 100% of the time, not only would we not be unable to learn anything new, but we would also need a much more efficient heart to supply it with the massive amounts of blood it would need, because even now while operating on such a ';small'; scale it uses 25% of the oxygen in our bodies.

So, simply, it is true that in some cases only 1% of the brain's capacity is used, but usage up to 5% of total capacity is considered fairly normal.
I heard that women develop their brains faster than men do. I found that pretty interesting
it's about 10 %
we use 鈮?1% of our brain.
Look at a MRI or a PET scan, then you tell me. It's pretty obvious to me that we use all of our brains.

Well, maybe except the people who are claiming that we use less.I might just believe that they are telling the truth about themselves.
